Hunting Eland and Bongo in the C.A.R
Best of Both Worlds
What makes this area so exceptional? It is the fact that you can hunt savannah and forest species during the whole season, on the same hunt. From January to July all species (both forest and savannah) can be hunted with good success. It is preferable though, to hunt the savannah species and leopard in the beginning of the season, (December - March), while especially the Bongo is easier to hunt with dogs and on foot from April to July.
Hunting Methods
Only fair-chase hunting methods are used. Typically, you will leave the camp by car in the early morning, looking for tracks from the vehicle. When you find what you are searching, you will start tracking on foot. It is necessary to be in a good physical condition because this type of hunting can be physically demanding. The tracking can last several hours in temperatures of 100 degrees. On some occasions a high-stand is used for forest hunting.
The Concession
The concession is located in the east half of The Central African Republic, a little bit south of the former concession of Les Safaris du Haute Chinko. The closest village is Yalinga, which is situated about 100 kilometers from the western boarder of the area, and the capital Bangui is 700 kilometers away. The 4500 square kilometer concession consists of a mix of open savannah, bushland and dense rainforest. Several rivers run through the area on their way to join the great Chinko river which makes up the eastern boarder of the concession. The varied biotope gives this area the great opportunity of being just as good for savannah hunting as for forest hunting. Allowing the hunter to take both Bongo and Lord Derby Eland on the same hunt.

2 week big game safari: 1 "precious game" "shot-opportunity" guaranteed
3 week big game safari: 2 "precious game" "shot-opportunity" guaranteed
4 week big game safari: 3 "precious game" "shot-opportunity" guaranteed
3 week lion safari: 1 lion "shot-opportunity" guaranteed
("Precious game" = Eland/Bongo/Leopard/Giant Forest Hog)
The following conditions are good for a "shot-opportunity": A shooting distance of maximum 150 meters. The animal is standing broadside, front or shoulder towards the hunter. The target area is clear.
The guarantee is only valid for a client that is capable, and willing to walk 10 km per day during the safari. The hunter must also have followed the reasonable instructions of his professional hunter.
If the client does not get the possibility to shoot the priority animal, CAWA will offer the client a new safari. For this new safari, the client will be held responsible for paying hunting and weapon licenses, air charter and dip & pack. The client is also held responsible for everything that is not normally included in CAWA's prices (international flight, visa, etc). During this second safari, the client will only have the possibility to shoot such species that he did not take during the first safari.
