Gras Ranch Namibia
This Hunting Ranch is ±
145 miles (232km) south of Windhoek, the capital of Namibia.
The hunting territories cover over 37500 hectares (over 92,000
acres, about 145 sq. miles) of arid bush land with savannah.
It is known for its abundant wildlife and majestic views. Considered
one of the most beautiful game ranches in Namibia. It is very
well known in Germany.
Accommodations
The main house, which was built in 1906, is a luxurious and comfortable
haven. Here our guests can relax with a drink and ponder the fruits of a
successful day of hunting before indulging in a delicious traditional
African meal. We will cater for any special requests by prior
arrangements. In addition to the main house, we have bush camping on the
bank of the Fish River, which runs through the ranch for ± 17 miles
(28km). Hunters can sit at the fire on the riverbank and enjoy BBQ while watching
the Southern Hemisphere stars.
The Season
The hunting season opens in February
and runs through November, during which time we only have 20
safari bookings available. We take pride in the quality of our
hunts. Rather than packing in as many safaris as possible we
concentrate on a few first-rate hunts, which allow our clients
to get the high quality trophies that they seek.
The Wildlife
The
ranch is blessed with a generous number of waterholes, rivers
and open grasslands. Gemsbok (Oryx), Hartebeest, Zebra, Springbok,
Wildebeest, Blesbok and Kudu are amongst the wildlife species
that profit from this abundance. You can see this magnificent
array of wildlife congregating near the river, especially during
the dry winter months, May through September. Amongst the profusion
of wildlife on the game ranch are over 15 species of antelope,
ranging from the tallest animal on earth, the Giraffe to the
small Steenbok. Namibia is home to a multitude of unique and
interesting creatures and is known
as being a veritable bird
life paradise. It hosts the world's largest and fastest land
bird, the Ostrich and the heaviest flying bird, the Kori Bustard.
The Hunt
Guided by our experienced Professional
Hunter with his team of trackers and a skilled skinner, you can
choose to hunt on your own (1x1), alongside a friend (2x1), or
accompanied by a non-hunting guest. Each safari is specially
adapted to provide choice and variety of hunting methods. These
include bow hunting, using 4x4 hunting vehicles with approaching
and tracking by foot or waiting for game from a blind or from
a high tower near a waterhole. To compliment your big game safari,
there may
be opportunity depending on the time of year, to hunt upland
birds such as Doves, Grouse and African Guinea Fowl. If you still
have time left, there is fresh water fishing in the Fish River.
